Hi, there! My name is Stacey and welcome to my online photo course! I've taken thousands of portraits and headshots in the past decade, but I created Take Your Own Damn Headshot in part BECAUSE I don't like taking headshots! Both cameras and strangers can make people nervous, so let's face it - brief periods of time in front of a stranger holding a camera don't always yield the best pictures, so I've found a better way of helping, which is educating people to take these images for themselves! I can't remove the camera from the equation, but I can remove the person on the other side, and hopefully this makes it easier to relax and get a good, natural shot of yourself. You can do it, even with a five year old smartphone like I did!

I’m Stacey Torma and I make my living teaching Photography and Video to college students and shooting freelance photography work. I have been a photographer for over 15 years and a teacher for over a decade. Throughout my career, I have learned many times over how to use a camera. I started out in a college fine art program photographing my friends, and in the commercial world I have photographed nightclubs, conventions, food, models, and more, but the subject I have shot more than anything else is people – and I have learned some things about how to do that really well, and I have learned some things about how you can really mess it up, so that’s what I want to share with you.
